About WiiSports
WiiSports is an electronics game released by Nintendo to introduce the Wii video game console. It has five components that let the player simulate boxing, golf, bowling, baseball and tennis. The Wii is an interactive electronic device that is connected to a display device such as a computer monitor or a television set and is used to play video games. The Wii is different from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in that it utilizes internal flash memory instead of an internal hard drive. The Nintendo Wii also has the distinction of having the lowest price and its use of the Wii Remote.
The Wii Remote serves as the main controller for the Nintendo Wii video game console. What makes it different from the other controls is that it has a motion sensing capability. This device resembles a TV remote or a cell phone and permits the player to imitate the actions made when playing tennis, baseball, boxing, bowling or golf. Thus, the player goes through the usual swinging motions of a golfer when swinging a club, a tennis player when swinging a racket, or a boxer when throwing a punch. This is done by swinging the Wii Remote as if it is a golf club, a tennis racket, or one’s fists.
Every game in Wii Sports has a training mode, a standard mode, and a multiple player mode. There are three training games for each sport and the player is evaluated based on strength, stamina, and speed. The scores are then combined to provide the player’s Wii Fitness Age. The player also earns points and when he has reached 1,000 points, he becomes a Pro. Another feature of Wii Sports is that each player can create a cute caricature of himself that is shown playing the game in the video and this is called the Mii. Skill levels and high scores are also kept in the Mii.
One to four players can participate in tennis. The players hold the Wii Remote as if it is a racket. The forehand, volley, backhand, spin, slice, lobs and power are based on the angle of the swing and how fast the player moves the Wii Remote. The computer is in charge of moving the players across the court so the players need not worry about this. In bowling, the player uses the Wii Remote as if it were the ball while pressing the B button. Releasing the B button will be equivalent to releasing the ball.
In boxing, the player holds the Wii controller in one hand and the Nunchuk extension controller in the other. This controller connects to the Wii Remote and also has motion sensing capabilities but with the addition of a Control Stick and two buttons. The player simply thrusts out an arm to make a punch. Blocking the opponent’s punch is possible by holding the Nunchuk and Wii Remote in front. The Mii character can also move forward, backward, left or right by moving the body in those directions.
